Peter Rosenmeier takes home the gold medal at the European Para Table Tennis Championships

Last week the Pressalit-sponsored para table tennis player Peter Rosenmeier won another gold medal at the European Para Table Tennis Championships in Helsingborg in Sweden.

From the 16th of September to the 21st of September, the Danish para athletes were fighting to take home medals for Denmark. Peter Rosenmeier was one of them.

In the semifinals of the men’s single tournament, Peter was up against German Thomas Rau in a – in some people’s eyes – nail biting match. Luckily, the close match ended with a victory and a spot in the finals for Peter Rosenmeier. In the finals, Peter met Rumanian Bobi Simion with whom he wiped the floor.

Rosenmeier had been looking forward to this specific match. Therefore, he said the following to Dan Boyter after his victory in the finals “I came from a semifinal, where I had just been too closed up, too focused, too locked up, and I actually talked to our sports psychologist about playing the game as if it was any other day of training.” Instead, Rosenmeier fired up his game and as he said himself “It was neck or nothing.” Luckily, it resulted in another victory and a gold medal. With this gold medal as the European Champion Peter Rosenmeier completes his hat-trick as the World Champion, the European Champion, and the Paralympic Champion.

Rewarding tournament for the Danish athletes

In addition, Thea Amalie Nielsen did an extraordinary job winning the bronze medal in the women’s class 10. For some this stands as a surprising yet impressive achievement of the young table tennis talent.

The tournament did also give us a Danish silver medal as the Danish men’s team consisting of Peter Rosenmeier, Henrik Brammer, and Rasmus Damkjær Hansen played an impressing and convincing team tournament. Nevertheless, the Danish men were defeated by the very well-playing Spanish team, who ended the Danish dream of yet another European Championships title.
