Pressalit believes in living in harmony with our surroundings

- both when it comes to our neighbours and also the beautiful and diverse nature that we are so lucky to be a part of. Many people are surprised to see such a big industrial company based in the middle of Ry town, among the detached houses and other private homes, but here at Pressalit, we treasure good neighbourly relations.

Environment and quality management

Since 1993, Pressalit has been quality certified according to the ISO 9001 standard, and since 1997 we have been environment certified according to ISO 14001. This means that, among other things, we make continuous improvements in our management system, have a process-oriented mindset with an eye on life cycle, and binding partnerships with our suppliers.

Our environment and quality management systems significantly contribute towards achieving the concepts of due care and consideration, which form the core of Pressalit's activities.

Environment regulation

As a D207 listed company, Pressalit is bound by sections 4 and 5 of the Environment Protection Act. This means we have an environment approval and a waste water permit, which define the general framework and conditions for our operation and production at Isagervej in Ry. Our supervising authority is Skanderborg Municipality.

Processes and environmental impact

Pressalit makes the company's main product - toilet seats made of thermoset plastic. The raw material - urea granulate - is pressed in heated tools under enormous pressure and high temperatures. After cutting, polishing and fitting the hinges, the seat is ready for packaging. Pressalit products with aluminium as the core component are produced primarily by sub-contractors and are then assembled by Pressalit.

Production causes waste in the form of 'shavings' and discarded seats. We continually strive to reduce waste and, as far as possible, to recycle any waste we have. The remainder is sent to an incinerating facility where it is used for heat recuperation.

For air emissions, of which the most significant are formaldehyde, dust and noise, we continuously measure our emissions and comply with the applicable limit values.

Environment conditions - toilet seats

A toilet seat typically consists of a seat and lid, hinges and fittings. The seat and lid consist of processed urea granulate, which is an organic material whose primary content is cellulose, carbon dioxide, nitrogen and water. The pressing process also emits very small concentrations of formaldehyde, which are well below the set limit value.

The material belongs to the group of hardened plastics; a plastic type that unlike thermoplastic can be melted and recycled. Disposal is done through daily refuse collection or via local recycling plants.

Hinges and fittings typically consist of stainless steel and/or parts of thermoplastic. Stainless steel parts are disposed of as metal waste. Other parts can be disposed of through ordinary incineration as mentioned above.

The hardened plastic does not emit any harmful substances upon use.

Waste from Pressalit's land register is sustainably removed with help from recycling companies.

Disposal of electrical Presslit products

It is the importer's/manufacturer's responsibility to dispose of electronic waste in an environmentally correct way. Pressalit works with Elretur (Elektriske & Elektroniske Producenters Affaldsorganisation). As a Pressalit customer, you can therefore contact Elretur when you want to dispose of your own electrical products. For further information, see www.elretur.dk.

Every year, Pressalit reports to Elretur and calculates the environmental impact according to the WEEE directive. This means that you are protected from any unexpected enquiries from the environment authorities when trading with Pressalit.

You can find our Elretur certificate for producer responsibility in our Help Center.
