Improving healthcare and promoting inclusivity through eduation

Welcome - let's learn together!

Designing for inclusivity is about more than adhering to building codes and regulations - it's about creating spaces where everyone feels a sense of belonging.

Our mission is to empower all (healthcare professionals, architects, business owners, management at healthcare facilities, etc) with the knowledge and resources needed to make the right decisions, when creating inclusive spaces and solutions.

We invite you to explore the content below, which will provide you with articles, extensive design guides and recorded webinars (free!).

Why accessible solutions are worth the investment

There are many reasons why it makes sense to calcuate ROI when investing in new equipment for accessible bathrooms and kitchens across facilities (whether they are in healthcare, institutions or public spaces):

  • Healthcare facilities can determine if investments in accessible solutions lead to improved patient satisfaction and better health outcomes, which are essential for building a positive reputation and growing the organization.
  • Investing in accessible solutions helps hospitals and nursing homes stay compliant with regulations and avoid potential lawsuits. Calculating ROI can help determine the cost-effectiveness of these investments, while also prioritizing essential upgrades.
  • High quality accessible solutions could provide a competitive advantage, potentially attracting more customers to restaurants, sports venues, concert halls or e.g. nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

Knowing the ROI of investing in accessible solutions helps healthcare organizations and businesses make sustainable financial decisions and prevent overspending on less effective projects, ensuring long-term growth and stability.

We have combined the knowledge of our in-house designers and architects as well as 60+ years of working with healthcare facilities, public buildings and private homes and created two extensive guides: one for bathrooms and one for kitchens.

A thoughtfully designed bathroom should have appropriate door widths, accessible sinks and faucets, grab bars, lowered mirrors, and unobstructed turning space for wheelchair users and potential nursing staff.

Designing kitchens for disabled people generally involves incorporating adjustable countertops and cabinets, accessible appliances, appropriate flooring, and thoughtful layouts. These considerations help to eliminate barriers that may prevent someone with a disability from using the kitchen effectively and comfortably.

Overall, inclusive design contributes to a better quality of life for disabled individuals by enabling them to participate in everyday activities and maintain their independence.

Our guides provide you with:

  • Space reguirements and turning areas needed in a room
  • Illustrations of what these requirements look like in different scenarios
  • A checklist to keep you on track
  • Layout examples in three different room sizes
