Responsibility initiatives in Pressalit touch on every aspect of our business, from the energy used in our production to the internal practices we follow every day. At our factory, we focus on reducing energy consumption and heating requirements, streamlining internal procedures to minimize waste, and constantly improving the efficiency of our transport and distribution systems.
Even in the small things—such as using eco-friendlier packaging materials or minimizing food waste from our canteen—we see an opportunity to make a difference. For us, no detail is too small when it comes to making positive changes, and we believe that a collection of small actions can result in a significant impact over time.
Our proactive approach to environmental responsibility includes addressing carbon emissions throughout our business. We actively measure and manage our carbon footprint across Scope 1 (direct emissions from owned sources), Scope 2 (indirect emissions from energy use), and Scope 3 (other indirect emissions such as transportation and supply chain). By using the Climate Compass tool, which aligns with EU standards, we have been able to closely track and reduce our emissions in these areas.
Optimised packaging solutions
Our commitment to being responsible also extends to our packaging, recognising the importance of reducing waste and enhancing recyclability. To ensure our packaging lives up to our own high standards and requirements from the EU on recyclability:
- We use FSC® certified cardboard, ensuring responsible forestry practices.
- Our new packaging design enhances durability, minimising waste during transportation and storage.
- We collaborate with esteemed partners like German Interseroh and Der Grüne Punkt to facilitate proper recycling processes.
- We have Increased the use of recycled cardboard and maintained high quality.
- We use a local packaging supplier to reduce the transport of packaging to our factory.
Complying to official standards
Pressalit has long been dedicated to maintaining high environmental standards, as demonstrated by our ISO 14001 certification, which we’ve held since 1997. This international standard requires us to continuously improve our environmental management system, adopt a lifecycle perspective, and ensure full traceability of materials through partnerships with suppliers.
Moreover, our membership in the United Nations Global Compact since 2002 reflects our ongoing commitment to responsible business practices.
Every year, we produce a UN Communications on Progress report, showcasing our efforts to align with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Specifically, we focus on Goals 4 (Quality Education), 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), and 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), ensuring that our operations meet present needs while considering the long-term future.
